We are looking for a volunteer to be the next Convener of the Map Curators’ Group. This should be for an initial term of three years with an option for extension.
Paula Williams has been Convener of the Map Curators’ Group of the British Cartographic Society since 2018, and will be stepping down from the role in September 2024.
The Map Curators’ Group (MCG) is for anyone interested in using and sharing maps. Our members include librarians, archivists, curators, map historians and map collectors. We are bound together by a shared interest in curating, maintaining and sharing maps. The group's main activities aim to develop professional understanding of maps with workshops, training, a newsletter, and an email discussion group.
As a Special Interest Group of the British Cartographic Society (BCS), the MCG is governed by BCS Terms of Reference.
The MCG Convener must be a Full Member of BCS.
The appointment must be approved by BCS Council.
The Convener is not automatically a member of BCS Council, but can stand for election in the normal way.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing the arrangement of the MCG annual workshop and other training events
Conducting an annual business meeting with group members to decide the future direction of the group
Representing map libraries in general and sitting on BRICMICS
Being responsible to the BCS Honorary Treasurer for financial matters relating to the Group’s activities
Reporting regularly to the appropriate BCS Committee/s
Writing the ‘Convener’s Corner’ article in the group’s newsletter “Cartographiti”
